Therapy For Panic Attacks

Types of Therapy for Panic Attacks

Although there are many effective coping techniques, it doesn't mean it will get rid of your panic attacks forever.
You can get the list of techniques here: Panic Attack Techniques

Coping techniques only help you to overcome a panic attack but it doesn't cure the root cause of panic attacks. Treat the cause and not the symptoms. There are various therapy for panic attacks. The common ones are:

  • Medications (e.g: Prozac, Zoloft, Xanax)
  • Electro-Shock Therapy
  • Thought-Field Therapy
  • Neuro-Lingustic Programming
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy

I wouldn't recommend medications since it has potential side-effects and terrifying withdrawal symptoms. There has been reports that antidepressants aren't really effective as they claim to be.

For Electro-Shock Therapy, Thought-Field Therapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, they are said to be ineffective for curing panic attacks. I'm not saying it doesn't work or it is a scam, rather it just isn't suitable for most people and it doesn't guarantee to work.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is the best choice of all the options.
Remember, you are always worrying the next panic attack is because of the trauma and negative beliefs that have been resulted from your previous panic attacks. CBT helps to "re-program" your beliefs to make your brain function as normal again, therefore you won't experience any panic attacks in future.

Unfortunately, only qualified professionals like Psychologist can perform CBT effectively with guaranteed results and they usually charge a very high fees for it. You can read more about The Best Panic Attack Treatment
